As a city we are proudly a melting pot of cultures which means you’ll find a bountiful supply of Australia Day events on the Gold Coast come January 26.

It’s the day we’re able to reflect on our connection with Australia, whether that’s as a born and bred citizen, an Indigenous Australian or someone who has moved here from overseas.

While Gold Coast clubs, pubs and restaurants will serve up a unique Aussie Day experience, the City of Gold Coast’s annual event is set to wow crowds with a fireworks display likely to rival New Year’s Eve. All are welcome to join the celebration, which unites our nation, at Broadwater Parklands Great Lawn in Southport from 4pm to 8pm.

Fill your tummies with fine fare from one of the 20 all-nation food trucks, listen to local musos on the main stage, or entertain the kids thanks to the Aussie Sporting Zone.

If crowds aren’t your thing, gather your friends and family and do one of these uniquely Gold Coast activities on Australia Day.

Here are seven ways to celebrate Aussie day in true Gold Coast style:

1. Hire a paddleboard and enjoy a day on the water.
2. Grab some mates and play barefoot bowls and a sanger.
3. Spend a day screaming at one of the theme parks
4. Have a bonza barbecue around the pool with mates.
5. Don your swimmers and head to the beach.
6. Turn up Triple J’s Hottest 100 and play backyard cricket!
7. Go and watch some crabs racing with the kids.

Currumbin RSL

A family-friendly event overlooking the Currumbin Creek from 10am with live Aussie tunes, tucker special, trivia and free face painting for the kids, and adults if you want! You can also catch Nigel Jones in the Main Bar.

Cabana Bar & Lounge Presents Australia Day

Enjoy Australia Day in style and comfort in Cabana’s open-air lounge from 12pm. The hottest 100 will be broadcast, toads will race and there will be special Aussie cocktails. Also, catch the Griffith University Australia Day Gift races on Fankhauser Reserve from your Cabana until 3pm.

Australia Day At Southport Sharks

Kids will love dancing on the main stage from 1.30pm with LOL Crew and there’ll be a visit from Mr Sharky at 2pm. Meal specials at Frenzy Food Court and a free live reptile show and face painting.

North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Club Party Aussie Day BBQ In the Park

Grab a blanket and bring the family to Ed Hardy Park from 11am to 3pm. This free event is open to the public and there’ll be food stalls, music and games to amuse the kids.

BBQ And Live Music On The Deck At Hard Rock Cafe Surfers Paradise

Head to the iconic restaurant for a rockin’ Australia Day and listen to best Australian covers by Andy Penney music while enjoying views, beverage on the deck and an Aussie hot dog.

Australia Day at Southport Yacht Club

From 12pm guests can enjoy live entertainment by Spin and there’ll be Aussie raffles and prizes for best dressed. Lunch is available in the Waterfront Restaurant.

Runaway Bay Tavern Australia Day Event

Enjoy a leisurely Aussie Day with a band from 3pm, cricket on the big screen, a free barbecue, a pie eating competition AND a throng throwing competition.
