Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year will be celebrated on Saturday 17 February from 4pm to 9pm at Gold Coast Chinatown, Young and Davenport Streets, Southport.

The celebration is a free event featuring a delicious Asian street food market, superb local restaurants, live music and cultural entertainment, children’s activities, film screening, pop up laneway bar and a spectacular fireworks display.

This is the fourth annual Gold Coast Lunar New Year celebration, also commonly referred to as Chinese New Year, with the 2017 event attracting almost 15,000 visitors.

Bottled water will not be sold at the event, to help reduce the amount of waste generated. Instead, free water refills will be available, so don’t forget to bring your own bottle. Close to 1000 plastic water bottles were diverted from landfill at the 2017 celebrations.

Getting to the event is easy. Ride your bike and receive a free bike maintenance check, or catch the G: Link direct to Southport station. Alternatively, there is parking at several local City of Gold Coast car parks including:

  • Mal Burke car park – corner Hinze and Davenport Streets
  • Athol Patterson car park – near Southport Library
  • Carey Park car park – Broadwater Parklands

Gold Coast Chinatown is the place to celebrate the city’s diversity through culture, design, people and food.
