It’s finally here! The XXI Commonwealth Games start tonight with the Opening Ceremony extravaganza, followed by 11 days of incredible sporting action and Festival 2018 entertainment.
To ensure you have the most memorable time possible, make sure you’re across all the details you need to know, like how to get to your session and what you can take into the venue.
If there’s one word you need to remember…
It’s plan.
Make sure you’ve planned your journey (check out the handy Journey Planner on the app!) and allow extra time to get to the venue.
Your Venue Guide has all the info you need to know, like what times gates open and any venue specific information, such as whether it’s outdoors or indoors, transport options and things you might want to bring along.
Avoid bringing a bag if you can
It will be faster to get into the venue.
But if there are a few things you need to bring, like sunscreen (keep under 250ml), baby food, medicine, a hat or empty transparent plastic bottle to fill up once you’re inside, make sure the bag will fit under your seat and that all items you plan on bringing, like the above, are permitted.
See what items are and aren’t allowed inside the venue
Certain items are restricted or prohibited, so be on the safe side and check everything you’re planning to bring is OK. See the permitted, restricted or prohibited items at a glance, or if you’d like more detail, see the full Venue Entry Conditions.
Top tip: If you’re bringing a commercially sealed water bottle, make sure it’s no larger than 350ml. But if you’re planning on bringing a reusable, transparent plastic bottle, it can be any size and you can fill it up as soon as you pass through security.
Have fun!
It’s going to be a GREAT Games and you’re going to have an amazing time. Get into the sporting spirit and dress up in your favourite country’s colours and get your cheering voice warmed up. Remember this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Plus, Festival 2018 is happening all across the Coast and in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, so make a day of it and see some of the incredible (and free!) arts and cultural events while you’re out and about.
Tickets are still available for many great GC2018 sessions.
